Nationalism and Models of National Integration in the Federal Republic of Germany

Abstract. The discussions about the ways of social consolidation of German society in terms of the multiculturalism crisis have actualized the scientific interest in the peculiarities of nation building and the policy of national integration in Germany. The article examines the peculiarities of nation building in Germany, conditioned by the traditional notions of the German nation as an ethnic nation. The main stages in the policy of national integration in the Federal Republic of Germany, its doctrinal and legal grounds are outlined. The ideal models of national integration dominant in the second half of XX-early XXI century are identified, namely: conservative (ethno-cultural assimilation), neoconservative (ethno-cultural-assimilation, with the elements of multiculturalism), liberal (civil-political, liberal-multicultural) and neoliberal (civil-political, with the elements of the doctrine «Leitkultur in Deutschland»).
