Review of Modern Studies  on the History of Fashion

Abstract. The study of this fashion involves the analysis of a wide range of issues, including those related to the history of everyday life, microhistory, social anthropology, etc. The history of clothing and fashion, as many researchers claim, is the study not only of some of its external attributes, fabric, and cut but also a kind of set of symbols that reflect a particular historical era, status of a person in society and even the Declaration of etiquette. The works of Wilson E., Vincent S.J., Breward C., which came out in Russian, were published by “Novoe Literaturnoe Obozrenie” and attained popularity among domestic readers. These studies are built on a solid source base and are accompanied by vivid illustrative material. The efforts of scientists are exciting because they tried to consider clothes, fashion and costume in their historical development up to the present times, and each author tried to define these categories in his own way.
