Abstract. This paper presents the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival. It has been organized in order to preserve and spread the traditional culture associated with the historical event, Imjin War, Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592–1598. During the war on the riverside Namgang near the castle, Jinjusung made the fire-lights to communicate with the people outside the castle. After the end of the war, a tradition makes fire continued, every year people in Jinju make the fire-lights to memorize the war and people, who gave their lives for their homeland, let the lights down the river Namgang. Nowadays, the main themes of this festival are historical events related to the war, Korean folk customs, religious motifs, characters from fairy tales and cartoons, famous world sights, famous paintings, etc. Also, the festival consists of various programs, like interactive classes, exhibitions, concerts, performances.
This festival has repeatedly won medals at festival competitions, and this proves that the festival based on the historical event is very competitive and informative for historical and cultural tourism.
