Abstract. The monograph of British historian Jerry Brotton is dedicated to the contacts of Elizabethan England and Muslim East: Marocco, Ottoman Empire and Persia. J. Brotton thoroughly examines the image of Islam and its image in perceptions of English diplomats, politicians, travelers and playwrights. The author investigates mechanisms of representation of Muslims as the “Others”, and factors influenced on this process in the context of events of 16th century.
