Abstract. The article presents an overview of the Forth All-Russian scientific conference with international participation “The Great Patriotic War in the history and memory of the peoples of the South of Russia: events, participants, symbols”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Don and Donbass, which was held in Rostov-on-Don on July 5–8, 2023 157 researchers from different regions of the Russian Federation and neighboring countries took part in it. The event included a plenary session, four sections, three round tables, and a regional festival of documentary military-historical and patriotic cinema. The conference discussed topical problems of historiography, new approaches and sources in the study of the Great Patriotic War, military operations in the south of the USSR in 1941–1943, Nazi occupation and resistance to invaders, the interaction between the authorities and society during the war, its reflection in the memory space and culture of Southern Russia.
