All-Russian Scientific and Practical Seminar on the History of Interpreters and Translators in Russia

Abstract. The review analyzes the concept and main results of the All-Russian scientific and practical seminar — “Connecting Worlds”: interpreters and translators in Russia in the second half of the 16th — early 19th centuries (structures, communications, languages)”, held on May 21, 2024. The idea of the seminar and its objectives, which determined the composition of the participants in the scientific event and its structure, are presented. It is established that the topics and problems of the reports presented were included not only in the history of Russian diplomacy and the development of the central institutions of the Russian state. Most of the reports examined the participation of various interpreters and translators in regional military-political and sociocultural processes, in the space of intercultural dialogue and communication of border communities. In addition, the presented reports highlight the problem of organizing oral and written translations by the authorities of the Kalmyk and Crimean Khanates, as well as the Ottoman Empire.
