N.A. Dobrovolskaya-Zavadskaya: Professional and Social Activities in Russia and Emigration

Abstract. The article is the first comprehensive scientific study of the biography of Doctor of Medicine, surgeon, geneticist, professor Nadezhda Alekseevna Dobrovolskaya-Zavadskaya (1878–1954), who has lived in Paris in exile since 1921. During her life, Dobrovolskaya-Zavadskaya went through a long path of development both as a scientist and as a public figure. This work makes an attempt to study her professional and social activities as fully as possible. An analysis of sources published and stored in archival funds, libraries and museums of the Russian Federation and France demonstrates the presence of various documents related to the life of N.A. Dobrovolskaya-Zavadskaya, which together make it possible to reveal the topic under consideration. Previously unused archival materials have been introduced into scientific circulation, revealing the features of the professional and social activities of N.A. Dobrovolskaya-Zavadskaya throughout her life.
