Milesian Colonization through the Eyes of Strabo

Abstract. The article examines in Strabo’s Geography the reflection of the thesis about the exceptional role of Miletus in Greek colonization. This thesis was expressed by Seneca and Pliny. Strabo speaks of Miletus in the same sense. He claims Miletus is a metropolis of many Greek cities, especially in Ponte. However, the analysis of “Geography” shows that, in general, this thesis is only partially confirmed by the text.
