Institutionalization of Historical Education and Science in the Work of the Department of the USSR History of the Rostov Pedagogical Institute in the second half of 40s–early 50s 20th Century

Abstract. Article is devoted to the institutionalization of higher historical education in Rostov-on-Don and the formation of historical science in the post-war period. The author reveals the process and features of the restoration of university historical science within the walls of the Rostov State Pedagogical Institute (hereinafter – the RSPI). Based on unpublished materials from the State Archive of the Rostov Region (transcripts of department meetings, reports on scientific and academic work), the author considers the contribution of the heads of the USSR history department in the field of historical education restoration. The article mentions the names of such well-known figures of Rostov historical science as Mikhail Vasilievich Klochkov, Varvara Konstantinovna Vilor, Konstantin Abramovich Khmelevsky, Yuzef Iosifovich Sery and many others. The article gives a description of the scientific activities of the staff of this department and lists their individual articles and areas of work. A special place in the article is given to the relationship of historical science and ideology during the period of late Stalinism. The description of the scientific work of the teachers of the Department of History of the USSR RSPI is accompanied by a description of some conflicts that took place and played an important role in the collegial relations and in the fates of the Rostov historians themselves.
