Abstract. 23 January 2017 marks 70 years of Vyacheslav Sergeyevich Savchuk, Rostov known medievalist and historiographer, PhD (History), Associate Professor of the Department of foreign history and international relations, SFedU. This publication is devoted to his research, teaching and publishing. V.S. Savchuk’s research interests include the history of Polabian-Pomeranian Slavs, SlavicGerman relations of the Middle Ages, the German historiography of the XX century, history of European and national intellectual culture. V.S. Savchuk graduated from the History faculty of Voronezh State University, worked in Kaluga Pedagogical Institute. In 1979, V.S. Savchuk went to work at Rostov State University, where he became a main lecturer in the courses of the Middle Ages history and the World History historiography. In 1984, V.S. Savchuk defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Problems of the History of the Polabian-Pomeranian Slavs (VI–XII centuries)”. V.S. Savchuk is the organizer and chairman of the Rostov regional branch of the Russian Society of Intellectual History, editor of the collection of research papers “Man of the Second Plan in History” and the anthology of the history of ideas “Cogito”.
