Abstract. The present review is devoted to the National Interdisciplinary Conference (with international participation) “Utopian Projects in History of Culture (dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Thomas More’s “Utopia”)”, which was held at Southern Federal University on 11–12 November 2016. Among the participants, there were prominent scientists, Russian and foreign specialists in utopia, young researchers, and students interested in utopian studies. The structure of the conference was determined by the subject of submitted proposals (the Organizing Committee has received more than 100 applications). It was decided to organize four sections that fully covered the thematic content of the submitted papers. The academic forum of young researchers and a roundtable in English became a platform for student discussion. In addition, being conceived as an academic-practical event, the conference was accompanied by an extensive cultural program, including a webinar, themed walk-tours, public lectures and a film festival.

Keywords: utopia, conference, utopian projects, cultural history, utopian studies, Thomas More.
