Abstract. The book by Kirill Stankov “King James II Stuart and the foundation of Jacobite movement 1685–1701” was published in 2014. Publication of this book was an important event for Russian historians. The author analyzes a significant number of sources and literature, both domestic and foreign. K.N. Stankov made an attempt to study political, military and religious transformations committed by the ruler of the United Kingdom. For this reason this study is a lay claim for the first full scientific publication, which details the activities of James II Stuart. The study is an attempt to revise the routine image of unambitious and inactive ruler of James II existing in Russian Humanities. Moreover, the author examines in detail the formation of the Jacobite movement. The particular chapter in the book is devoted to the emergence of the Russian Jacobites movement. The research not only covers the activities of the King of England and Scotland but also complements the academic knowledge about the history of Scotland, the UK and Ireland in the 17th century.
