Abstract. The memoirs of Yuri Antonovich Borko presented in the journal tell about the events happened in the USSR in August 19–21, 1991. The author finds out about the incident on August 19th being far from Moscow. Later on in the night of August 21th being situated nearby the building of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation together with his sons, he describes what is happening, the mood of people, comparing with the situation in the province. The author does not seek to make any assessment. Calling all events happened around him among the brightest events in life, he says that the most important was the unity of those who together with him were on the square in front of the White House. Memoirs allow considering in detail the internal view and observations of the individual standing in the rainy night of August 21 in the crowd, and characterize the motives of people participated in those events.
