Abstract. The article analyzes the work of the French historian of Georgian origin Georgy Mamulia “Imam Shamil and the national liberation struggle of the highlanders of the North-Eastern Caucasus in the reports of the French consuls from Tiflis”, published in Tbilisi in 2022. G. Mamulia tried to study the reports of the French consuls in Tiflis about the events unfolding in the North Caucasus in the second quarter of the 19th century. The work published 128 documents from 1839 to 1859, both in full and in extracts. Materials were taken from the archives of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The compiler carried out the work on identifying documents and translating them in Russian, compiling headings and comments. The review dwells on the undoubted merits of the publication, as well as on certain shortcomings.
