New and Unusual History of the Kuban Cossack

Abstract. The article analyzes the book of famous specialists in the history of the Cossacks A.P. Skoryk and I.M. Fedina “Kuban kurens and villages. The Everyday Settlement Way of the Kuban Cossacks and the Historical Forms of Settlements in the Kuban at the End of the 18th–the first third of the 20th centuries”, published in Novocherkassk in 2022. The monograph is an impressive 1336 pages book, and is an encyclopedia of the Kuban village and “Kuban life” as a phenomenon. The authors put forward the historical and spatial concept of the “Cossack world of the Kuban”. The key link in the scientific search, which reveals the ways of settlement, development and development of the territory of the present Krasnodar Territory, is the history of the formation of Cossack settlements in the Kuban. The author of the article inscribes a new work in the already existing rich historiography of the Kuban period of the Empire.
