On the Jubilee of S.M. Ilyashenko

Abstract. On the 11th of April, 2016 one of the most famous archaeologists of the Don area and vice director of the Archaeological Museum “Tanais” Sergei Mikhailovich Ilyashenko has marked his 50th anniversary.
S.M. Ilyashenko graduated from the history faculty of the Rostov State University in 1990. In 2007 he defended his Ph.D. thesis at the Institute of Archaeology RAS on the topic “Standard dipinti narrow-necked light clay amphorae of III–IV centuries BC (based on the Tanais and the Lower Don materials)”. This research has made a major contribution to the study of amphora trade system in Tanais and the Black Sea area in the Roman time. Also it helped to solve many problems of dating.
S.M. Ilyashenko is the author of more than 50 scientific publications on various aspects of the ancient Tanais study. During his activity as vice director a large number of research projects have been implemented.
