Abstract. The article is devoted to the 60th anniversary of Doctor of History, Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Culture at the Russian State Humanitarian University Sergey Aleksandrovich Yatsenko. Sergey A. Yatsenko is well known as a specialist in the archaeology and culture of the ancient Iranian peoples, the Sarmatians, the Alans, and the Iranians of Central Asia. He offers a different way in consideration of old problems, identifies new challenges, introduces familiar facts and phenomena in the wide ethnographic and cultural context. His work provides a new perspective on such an important and promising source as Tamga – a family/clan signs, which are widely used by the nomads of Eurasia. An informative source in his research appears costumes of the Iranian and Turkic peoples. He raises new questions in pharmacology: a study of robberies of Sarmatian necropolises, analysis of planography, the study of the burial grounds structure, the reconstruction of spiritual culture. The attention of Sergey A. Yatsenko also draws on the problem of the Iranian society. He dedicated his works to the characteristic of the political organization level, social structure and problems of the politogenesis among the Iranians. Sergey A. Yatsenko is a graduate of the historical faculty of the Rostov State University, never broke contacts with alma mater, and actively participates in the projects of the Institute of History and International Relations of Southern Federal University.
