Abstract. The first international conference “Archaeology of the ancient Bosporus and the Black Sea regions” took place on the 28–31 of October 2019. It was devoted to the 100th anniversary of Dmitry Borisovich Shelov — the famous Russian archaeologist, historian, epigraphist, numismatist, founder of the Lower Don Archaeological Expedition and Archaeological Museum-Reserve “Tanais”. Presentations examined the modern tendencies in studying history and archaeology of the Black sea region. The conference lasted for four days and had six sections: “Numismatics and epigraphy”, “Ancient archeology of the Northern Black Sea region”, “Natural science methods in archeology”, “Ancient archeology of the Lower Don and Tanais”, “Archeology of the Scythian-Sarmatian world”, “Problems of the Ancient History of the Black Sea”. More than 120 researchers introduced 97 reports. During the conference, a resolution was adopted that noted the high professionalism and merits of Tanais archaeologists. The participants expressed a desire to make the conference regular. The question about the federal status of the “Tanais” Museum-Reserve was also raised.
