Abstract. The Civil War of 1917–1920 affected a wide range of aspects of Russian society. At the same time, aspects of the civil war, such as the impact of its events on
family and kinship relationships, remain insufficiently explored. The dramatic nature of this aspect, its human dimension, is interesting from both a purely scientific and a
universal perspective. Therefore, this important issue seems undoubtedly relevant in modern conditions. This paper, using the example of the Malsagov family, attempts to
demonstrate the specific features of the civil war in Ingushetia in terms of its impact on kinship relationships between family members who took opposing political positions
during the civil war. It is noteworthy that both brothers, Sozerko and Ortskho Malsagov, occupied prominent positions in the anti-Bolshevik and pro-Bolshevik camps, respectively, in the North Caucasus. The article outlines the main points of the biographies and sociopolitical activities of the Malsagov brothers, both before, during, and after the civil war.
The absence of hostility in the brothers’ personal relationships and their mutual desire to reunite after the end of the civil war are particularly noted as proof of the strength of family ties in traditional society, even in the face of global socio-political upheavals, including in the case of individuals who outwardly deviated significantly from this traditional way of life and were strongly influenced by both Russian and European cultures. Based on the study of the material, a conclusion is drawn about the inevitable impact of the events of the civil war on the family, even in a traditional society. Nevertheless, in these specific circumstances, the ups and downs of civil strife were somewhat mitigated by conservative foundations based on customs and traditions.
