Abstract. The author has set the task to study the works on the Decembrist uprising by the patriarch of Russian Decembrist studies, academician M.V. Nechkina, who created the Soviet concept of the Decembrist movement, written at the dawn of her creative activity in the first half of the 1930s. A comparison of these early publications with later works, on the basis of which the researcher interpreted the Decembrist movement, testifies to the extraordinary scientific flexibility of M.V. Nechkina, her ability to take into account the peculiarities of the moments experienced by historical science, and finally, the political flair of this major figure in our historiography.
