Abstract. The review analyzes the content of a monograph by T.K. Kholmatov and dedicated to the intellectual biography of the famous historian S.B. Veselovsky. The
book reconstructs the historian’s life path and his scientific legacy. It is noted that this is currently the most comprehensive biography of the scholar. The work is based on a wide range of sources, including those not introduced into scientific circulation. However, the main innovation of the monograph lies in its theoretical and methodological approach. The intellectual biography is viewed through the prism of the principles of source studies in historiography. The review expresses concern that the consistent implementation of the proposed approach limits the source and problem field. The chapter on the classicization of S.B. Veselovsky is recognized as innovative. As a result, it is concluded that the book has become a notable phenomenon in the study of the history of Russian historical science.
