In Memory of S.M. Smagina. A Decent Life as a Scientist, Mentor, and Teacher

Abstract. This essay is dedicated to the memory of Svetlana Mikhailovna Smagina (1936–2024), who worked at the Russian State University (SFU) for 55 years. In 1969, she linked her life with Rostov State University. In later years, she became a professor at the Department of Historical Political Science at the Institute of History and International Relations of the Southern Federal University, Honored Worker of Science and Education of the Russian Federation. The role of S.M. Smagina in the study of the history of the classical period of Russian multiparty system, Russian emigration and the political history of Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century is highlighted. S.M. Smagina’s
contribution to the work of training higher school employees is noted. It is noted that S.M. Smagina has come a long way from studying at the target full-time postgraduate school of the Russian State University in 1969 to professor, head of the department. The department under the leadership of Svetlana Mikhailovna Smagina was included in the Golden Fund of Russian Science, awarded the diploma “Golden Chair of Russia”.
