Abstract. “Archaeology of Russian Death” is a scientific journal devoted to the death studies in Russia, it is the first journal, presented in this field of study, deserving a special attention. The subject of the research is death and dying. Being originated as an internet project the journal has got a number of features inherent in the blogosphere, and is inextricably linked with the Internet space. Visual text separation and content elements, which are not usual to academic publications, set it apart from the usual body of scientific journals. “Death in the USSR” was chosen by the founders as the topic of the second issue. Based on the selected material, the authors made an attempt to show a change of attitude to death in the Soviet Union, its different types of representation and forming mortal discourse. The researches of sociologists, anthropologists, linguists and representatives of related areas of social and humanitarian knowledge touch upon different aspects of the same topic: Soviet culture of death, questions of life and death instincts (Eros and Thanatos), as well as the reflection of death in film posters and in presentations of musical groups. In addition to the main topic, the journal represents other issues devoted to the death studies. “Archaeology of Russian Death” is the first attempt to bring the death studies for a wide audience in Russian.
