VIII International Forum of Caucasian Historians: About Different on the Caucasus

Abstract. The VIII International Forum of Caucasian Historians “Peoples of the Caucasus in the 18th–21st Centuries: History, Politics, Culture” was held on October 13–15, 2021. It took place in one of the cities of the North Caucasus – the resort city of Pyatigorsk. The event brought together in full-time, correspondence and online modes, presentations of 118 representatives from several regions of Russia and foreign countries, including from Georgia, Israel, Switzerland, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. The audience for which the forum was intended was not only Caucasian historians. Among the participants were ethnologists, anthropologists, political scientists, economists, psychologists and other representatives of other specialties, who annually take part in the work of the forum. The review examines the content of the plenary session, round table, and sections of the forum. On the issues discussed at the event, one can get an idea of the main directions developed by Russian researchers in the field of contemporary Caucasian studies. The organizers of this event set themselves a special task – to create such a platform that would ultimately allow obtaining an extremely versatile view of the contemporary problems of the Caucasus.
