Abstract. The publishing house New Literary Review, which pays much attention to the actual problems of historical and anthropological knowledge, published a monograph by Anna Ivanova “Beryozka” Stores: the paradoxes of consumption in the late USSR” in 2017. The author analyzed the system of currency retail trade established in the USSR in the second half of the 1950s-1980s, as well as practices associated with it and specific consumption patterns in Soviet society. The proposed review take up the author’s approach to the study of the problems of Soviet everyday life.
