“To be Honest with Oneself”: In Memory of Galina Sultanovna Pshegusova (March 11, 1953– September 11, 2019)

Abstract. The article is dedicated to the memory of Galina Sultanovna Pshegusova, who headed the Department of English Language for Humanities of Southern Federal University for 25 years before untimely passing away 11 September, 2019. A PhD in philosophy, Galina Pshegusova brilliantly authored more than 160 works (including textbooks, academic research papers and monographs) with dozens of them published in the top-rank Russian and foreign journals. In 1977 Galina Pshegusova graduated from Leningrad State University majoring in English language and English literature. Since then her professional life was closely related to Rostov State University, which later elevated as Southern Federal University in 2006. In 1985 she defended her Candidate’s thesis “Valencies and compatibility of dynamic English verbs and their abstract noun derivatives”. Having defended her doctoral thesis “Social communication: essence, categories, types of communicative environment”, Galina Sultanovna received PhD Degree in Philosophy in 2003. In 41 years since she joined the University, Galina Sultanovna Pshegusova made her way up from a post-graduate student to the head of department, being the permanent Head of the Department of English Language for Humanities at the Institute of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication for 25 years since its establishment.
