Abstract. The article is devoted to the memory of the outstanding historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences Sergey Ivanovich Malovichko, who passed away prematurely on April 20, 2021. His contribution to the historical science and his role in development of historiography, theory and methodology of history are exposed. Particular attention is paid to his organizational activities, in particular the opening of the Regional Branch of the Society of Intellectual History in Stavropol. In 2002 professor Malovitchko helped to open a Regional Scientific and Educational Center “New Local History” at Stavropol State University, which he also headed till 2005. Malovitchko was one of the organizers of traditional Russian online conferences on the basis of Scientific and Educational Center “New Local History”: “Boundary rivers and coastal culture” (2004), “City and village: theory and research practices” (2006) and others. Professor S.I. Malovichko is author of more than 200 scientific works, author and co-author of more than 30 textbooks and reference encyclopaedic editions, which became a desk book for not only students of history departments, but for professional historians dealing with problems of historiography and history of historical knowledge.
