Abstract. On August 20, 2020, the most outstanding Polish Russianist, philosopher, Professor Andrzej Walicki died. The article presents not only an intellectual portrait of Professor Walicki, but also information from his biography, which played a decisive role in his formation as a person and a researcher. Walicki was a scholar who protected his intellectual freedom in all circumstances. In communist reality, he deliberately ignored all sorts of ideological prohibitions and decrees. In post-communist reality, Walicki continued to ignore the “partisanship” of politics. The author cites data on many publications of A. Walicki not only in Polish, but also on translations of his works into numerous languages, including Russian. Walicki’s books began to be published in Russian just since 2012, and the the author notes that Professor Walicki, like many Polish intellectuals, was an anti-Soviet Russophile.
