Abstract. The collection of articles published at the end of 2019 at the St. Petersburg Publishing House “Historical Illustration” is the volume of manuscripts of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, dedicated to the anniversary of Doctor of Sciences Yury Nikolaevich Bespyatykh, whose professional activity is connected to this academic institution. At St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (until 1980, the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences of the USSR), Bespyatykh studied in graduate school (aspirantura), then worked as a junior, senior and leading researcher at the Department of Ancient History of Russia. Currently, Yu.N. Bespyatykh is a leading researcher at the Historical archive and source study group. The review presents the themes and, if possible, the main ideas of thirteen articles, the authors of which are colleagues and friends of the Bespyatykh. The content of the book is thematically formed in the context of historical subjects of the Petrine era and is successfully structured by the editorial board around three main issues: Peter the Great and the Russian North, Peter the Great and his associates, Peter the Great and the capital of Imperial Russia founded by him – St. Petersburg. The publication is a notable event in the development of modern historiography of Russia in the time of Peter the Great.
